The show has reached a point where, in order to impact the audience, it thinks it should hurt, not only the characters, but the fans as well.
There’s a limit of times (and ways) the writers can torture the doctors before it becomes ridiculous. Yes, any hospital is a place where life and death coexist. But that should apply mostly for the patients, right? If they continue like this, soon they could call it Grey’s Autopsy, created (and destroyed) by Shonda Rhimes.
What happened to Derek triggered some serious fan hate. And I get that. But for me, it wasn’t so disappointing for what happened, but how it did. Man, that was dumb. I mean, Dr. Shepherd is such a brilliant guy, how could he do something so stupid in the middle of the road right after saving a bunch of people? That way, our hero had the fool’s end that he didn’t deserve. And neither did we.
There could be a lesson here, that there are no “untouchables”. Not even McDreamy. But the way I see it, what could have been a bold writing decision became just a silly way of having “something big” happen in this season.
I am grateful, though, that the finale didn’t leave us hanging too much. Now I can finally say goodbye with no remorse. It’s been a good eleven years (with several ups and downs, but good after all), and I think I’ve finally seen enough.
So, did it end? For me it did.
And by the way, the best character throughout the eleven seasons is Alex Karev. I’ll probably miss him. Yeah, and Derek too.
